Generate a multiplication table for any number, or build a complete times table grid. Choose a number and how far to multiply — great for learning, homework, and practice.
"Knowing your times tables off by heart is one of the best things you can do for all of maths. Fractions, algebra, division — they all get easier once multiplication is second nature."
Tips for learning times tables
2s: Just double the number. 2 × 7 = 7 + 7 = 14.
5s: End in 0 or 5. Count by 5s: 5, 10, 15, 20…
9s: The two digits always add up to 9. 9×4=36 (3+6=9). Also: hold up 10 fingers, fold down the 4th — you see 3 on the left and 6 on the right = 36!
11s: Up to ×9, just double the digit: 11×7=77. For ×10+, add the digits in the middle: 11×13=143 (1, 1+3, 3).
12s: Think of 10× and 2× separately, then add: 12×8 = (10×8)+(2×8) = 80+16 = 96.
Quick Questions
Why do we learn the 1-12 times tables?
Historically, 12 was a very useful number because it divides evenly into so many things: 12 months, 12 inches in a foot, 12 items in a dozen. Multiplying in twelves was everyday arithmetic before calculators. Today we still learn 1-12 because it covers most of the mental maths you’ll need in school and daily life.
Is there a pattern in every times table?
Yes! Every times table has patterns in its last digits that cycle and repeat. The 5 times table alternates 5, 0, 5, 0. The 9 times table’s digits always sum to 9. Even the 7 times table has a cycle: 7, 4, 1, 8, 5, 2, 9, 6, 3, 0 — then it repeats. Spotting these patterns can help you remember tricky ones.
